Douglas County School District teachers, principals, staff, and community supporters came together on Saturday, April 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Event Center for the 2018 Douglas County School District Apple Awards, sponsored by The Foundation for Douglas County Schools. For the second year, the ceremony was emceed by Fox31 Denver Anchor, Kirk Yuhnke.

The Apple Awards honors and celebrates excellence in education. DCSD Employees and families nominate thousands of educators each fall. This year, more than 5,000 nominations were submitted. 188 Apple Representatives from schools and departments were then selected by the Foundation in January. Of this outstanding group of education leaders, five individuals received an Apple Award. A Community Partner of the Year Award was additionally given to Kroenke Sports and Entertainment. You can view a list of these winners and video profiles below.

During the evening, attendees also honored the memory of Chris Tabeling and an in-memoriam video was shown. Tabeling, who was the principal of ThunderRidge High School, passed away earlier this year after a years-long battle with cancer. An honorary award was presented to his family.
