Under the leadership of Mr. Lasecke, students are finding a future career underneath the hood. Thanks to the citizens of Douglas County passing the 2024 Bond, our CTE automotive program is expanding to Highlands Ranch High School. This will allow even more students to have the opportunity to learn this valuable trade.
Cimarron Middle School students are learning lessons in conservation and environment by helping raise trout in their classroom, with the hope that the fish can graduate from the tank to the river bank.
100 musicians from all over DCSD auditioned and were selected to be a part of the ninth annual DCSD Middle School Honor Ensemble. The orchestra and band are led by two guest conductors. It’s not an easy gig - these hard working students are given only four chances to practice before the big performance on January 25. Take a listen to find out why this opportunity to play together is so important for these middle school students.
He helped open two high schools in Parker, has won multiple awards and dedicated the last 26 years of his life leading students to success one note at a time. Orlando Otis’s career as a band director in Douglas County School District is coming to an end, but the impact he has had on musicians at both Chaparral and Legend high schools will be remembered for years to come.
Sixth graders at Renaissance Elementary Magnet School (REMS) recently completed their Winter Voyage, a three-day adventure at State Forest State Park in Walden. Together with their teachers, parent volunteers, and the school’s Adventure Education Coordinator, Ashley Cammack, student "crews" braved the snowy terrain, using snowshoes to hike, learning about avalanche safety, and practicing Leave No Trace principles
Students in Allison Slabotsky’s fourth-grade class at Heritage Elementary School are now published authors! While working on a Colorado animal project, Allison partnered with Student Treasures, a book publishing company that encourages teachers to motivate students and inspire their learning through the publishing process.
After passing around a list of Colorado native animals, each student selected and wrote about their animal. The stories were compiled into one classroom book called the “Wild Wonders of Colorado.”
