The Douglas County School District Spelling Bee took place on February 1, bringing together 67 talented students from 58 elementary, middle and charter schools to compete for the top spot.
Maya Ayres, a DCSD Sustainability Intern since 2022, is turning her passion for the environment into meaningful projects that make a difference. During her internship, Maya has presented to classrooms on the topics of microplastics and plastic pollution. Now she’s spearheading an exciting initiative at Douglas County High School to install an indoor garden, with the produce grown being donated to students facing food insecurity.
Bailey Reagan’s journey in healthcare began in the halls of Douglas County schools. From Wildcat Mountain Elementary to Rocky Heights Middle School and later Rock Canyon High School, she was shaped by the guidance of exceptional mentors like Mr. Abner, the Melansons and Mr. Koy. It was through Rock Canyon’s Health Sciences program that her passion for healthcare was ignited, setting the stage for a lifelong career in the field.
Under the leadership of Mr. Lasecke, students are finding a future career underneath the hood. Thanks to the citizens of Douglas County passing the 2024 Bond, our CTE automotive program is expanding to Highlands Ranch High School. This will allow even more students to have the opportunity to learn this valuable trade.
Cimarron Middle School students are learning lessons in conservation and environment by helping raise trout in their classroom, with the hope that the fish can graduate from the tank to the river bank.
100 musicians from all over DCSD auditioned and were selected to be a part of the ninth annual DCSD Middle School Honor Ensemble. The orchestra and band are led by two guest conductors. It’s not an easy gig - these hard working students are given only four chances to practice before the big performance on January 25. Take a listen to find out why this opportunity to play together is so important for these middle school students.
