What is your name, which school did you attend, and what year did you graduate?
My name is Madilynn Edwards and I graduated from ThunderRidge High School in 2020.

What have you been doing since graduation?
I’ve been attending Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where I’m studying exercise science. I came to Midland University on a cross-country and track scholarship. I used to play lacrosse in middle school and in high school and I wanted to take it up again, and fortunately, the University was very willing to work with me to make that happen!  Lacrosse is my favorite sport because I love the team aspect of it.

What is your proudest achievement since graduating?
I was named “Best Offensive Player of the Year” following the lacrosse season last spring. I played midfield and I was shocked when I learned about my award. I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Midland gave me to compete in multiple sports as well as the leadership opportunities such as being a residential advisor and serving as an ambassador for the University. 

Share a positive memory from high school that sticks out to you.
I always remember my coaches pushing me a lot in high school and I’ll never forget how supportive and encouraging they all were to me.

What was one unique thing you learned about yourself during high school? How did your teachers and school support you?
I learned that even when something seems impossible or too difficult that there are always things you can do to achieve that impossible goal. My coaches and teachers gave me the ability to fail and try again which I am so grateful for now.

What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?
Don't be too hard on yourself, it's just high school.

What skill (professional or personal) are you trying to master?
I just want to be the best version of myself.

What are your future plans?
I hope to go to graduate school and get my occupational therapy license and start working with different groups of people.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
