Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance is an important element of your income protection planning, especially for those who depend on you for financial security.  DCSD provides Basic Life and AD&D Insurance to all benefits-eligible employees at no cost.  You have the option to purchase Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance.

Please be sure to keep your beneficiary designation(s) up-to-date in Workday.

You are eligible for Basic Life Insurance & AD&D on the first day of the calendar month following 90 consecutive days as an employee.


That you can designate a beneficiary for your life insurance, whether it is the District provided or your additional purchased life insurance?  You can do this in Workday at any time of the year.  You can make changes to your beneficiary(s) or add beneficiaries.

That you can specify an Emergency Contact in Workday?  It may be easy to overlook, but it can be very helpful in times of need.

To purchase supplemental life and AD&D insurance for yourself, your spouse, and your children please review the information available in this Additional Life Insurance Booklet.  Ready to apply?  Enroll online at:

  • New Hires:  If you were recently hired, you may enroll within 31 dys of your date of hire.
  • Current Staff Member with Life Insurance: You may enroll during your annual enrollment period or within 31 days of your Change in Family Status. *Before enrolling, review the Benefits Summary for additional detals about the coverage, including cost, exclusions, limitation and other restrictions.  
    You may increase Voluntary Life Insurance by one increment of $10,000 up to $150,000 without completing a statement of health known as Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Increments over $10,000 and amounts over $150,000 will require an EOI. For Spouse Life any amount of increase will be subject to Evidence of Insurability up to $250,000.
  • Current Staff Member without Life Insurance: If you are not currently covered and choose to enroll, you will be required to complete a statement of health known as Evidence of Insurability (EOI). The additional coverage will not take effect until approved by The Standard.
  • New Staff Member: As a New Employee to Douglas County School District, you may elect up to the Guarantee Issue Amount of $150,000 without completing a statement of health known as Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Amounts greater than the Guarantee Issue $150,000 will be subject to Evidence of Insurability. This also applies to Spouse Life. You may elect up to the Guarantee Issue Amount of $50,000 as a new employee.
  • Spouse: $5,000 increments up to Guarantee Issue Amount of $50,000

Outside Agencies

Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.


Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
