Last month, the Board of Education passed a resolution tasking the Superintendent to convene a task force inclusive of members of the general public and staff members. This task force will develop a survey for parents of students eligible for special education services and a survey for staff members who serve students eligible for special education services.
Eleven Douglas County School District schools have been named recipients of the 2017 John Irwin Schools of Excellence Awards. The John Irwin awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. These schools received an "Exceeds Expectations" rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the School Performance Frameworks reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science.

Last spring she was one of only eight teachers to be honored with the Freddie G award. The award came with a trip to New York for master classes taught by industry professionals. She also led a trip to Sacramento for the Junior Theater Festival with seven of her students. To top it off she was given a $5000 grant for the school’s theater program. She plans on using the money to build a technical theater learning lab with the help of her students.
Growth can be hard to measure. It means different things to different people. Recently the 2017 Colorado Achievement and Growth Results were released. Growth and high performance were evident at many schools in Douglas County. How the growth happened is unique to each school. After visiting nearly every school in the Douglas County School District, Interim Superintendent Erin Kane and her leadership team have unveiled an action list and a reorganization of central administration that aim to better address the needs of DCSD students and staff.
