The International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally respected approach to education that helps students become curious, capable, and confident learners. In Douglas County School District, IB programs challenge students to think deeply, write clearly, and engage with the world around them. Through rigorous academics and a global perspective, IB helps students build the skills they need to succeed in college, careers, and life in a fast-changing world.

What is the IB?
The IB is a globally recognized education program designed to develop critical thinking, global awareness, and strong academic skills. Schools can offer different IB programs depending on grade level:
- PYP (Primary Years Programme): Grades K - 5
- MYP (Middle Years Programme): Grades 6 - 10
- DP (Diploma Programme): Grades 11 - 12
Why Families Choose the IB
Students in IB learn how to:
- Think critically and write clearly
- Manage time and complex projects
- Analyze information from local and global perspectives
- Advocate for themselves
- Prepare for college-level expectations
- Balance reflection, leadership, and community engagement
Colleges recognize IB as one of the strongest academic programs in the world.
- Colorado law guarantees IBDP graduates 24 college credits or the equivalent when students attend an in-state institution
- Passing scores for exams can be worth anywhere from 3 to 10 college credits each (dependent on the type of exam and score)
- Many national and international universities have higher acceptance rates for IBDP graduates
