Calendar Creation Process

For the 2027–28, 2028–29, and 2029–30 academic years, DCSD convened a Calendar Committee made up of parents, students, teachers, school leaders, and classified staff. The committee began its work on September 24, 2025.

At the outset, the committee developed 72 different calendar versions across the three years. These drafts reflected variations in start dates, whether to include a fall break, and the possible length of both fall break and Thanksgiving Break. After several rounds of review and refinement, the committee narrowed those initial drafts to four calendar options per year.

As part of the adoption process, the four options for each year are now being shared with families and staff from neighborhood (non-charter) schools for feedback. The survey is intended to gather input and identify the most broadly supported and workable option. It is not a popularity vote, but rather a way to understand stakeholder perspectives before a final recommendation is made.
