About the Family and Consumer Science Department

Family and Consumer Sciences is an exciting elective department offering credits in both practical and elective categories. We specialize in meeting students' current needs and preparing them for the future in personal and professional skills. Through our classes students can pursue skill advancement in career areas including Culinary Arts and Child Development. Students may also obtain college credit through our Early Childhood Education classes. 

If a student needs to explore his/her aptitudes, interests and skills, Career Pathways is a course to help them make solid career decisions. The Consumer & Family Sciences department strives for excellence through hands-on active learning. 

To broaden the learning of our students, we have 2 student organizations. Our national and state based Family Career and Community Leaders of America organization has two co-curricular divisions. The occupational portion is for students in the career based classes while the consumer portion focuses on personal skills. We have a state competition every spring in which PHS has had numerous state champions in skills based competitions. Students enjoy participating in these active groups while furthering their education at the same time. Our focuses are leadership, service, cooperation, and responsibility.

Student of the Month

Congratulations to Baylee Harmon for being selected the Student of the Month!

Baylee is in Culinary Nutrition and Catering 1. She is an outstanding student in the classroom and willing to work with other students. She is also a FCCLA member and has attended the Fall Leadership Conference and Ultimate Leadership Conference for FCCLA. Baylee has also competed in Skills Demonstration events at the state level.
