LHS MATHEMATICS

The Math Department's mission is to help students to become quantitatively literate.  We want our students to be able to process information, solve problems, interpret data and graphs, and to use logical reasoning to formulate arguments and make informed decisions.  They will use math every day - when they go shopping, plan a vacation, decide on a mortgage, or pick a health care plan.  They will encounter math as responsible citizens making sense of economic and political news and public policy debates.  Statistical literacy will be crucial to them when understanding health information and environmental issues, and logical reasoning is the cornerstone of rational debate and decision making.

You can't read the news without being bombarded with information presented in numbers, rates, or percentages because math is used in virtually every field to model the real world, make predictions, and analyze data.  Our goal is to have our students be ready for this numerical world.
