STEAM Based Learning

Meet the STEAM Stallion!
The new logo was designed by our own Walter Barton (Art Teacher). It visually depicts our school's new learning model: STEAM Based Learning.

As the year winds down, we are looking back to see how far we came with our new STEAM Framework. We started the year really focusing on Literacy and how to infuse it across all content areas. From there we really tried to work with staff on the thinking behind our challenges for students; Essentially "What skills are we working on for this challenge?". This has been most of our work the second half of the year. In order to help our teachers understand the process behind a really good challenge, we have trained them in Design Thinking. Design Thinking provides a road map for our students to help them organize their thoughts into a process.

STEAM Looking Ahead
Our goal for next year is to continue what we started this year. We are going to continue our training with Design Thinking/STEAM and work more towards a personalized learning approach. What this means is basically tailoring our instruction to meet the needs of each and every student. We are also going to move our professional development training to outside of the school day as we felt this year our students were impacted too much. In addition, we are partnering with Heritage Elementary in Highlands Ranch on our professional development plan. They will be another great resource for us to utilize and push our staff to be the best that they can be.

On Friday, May 6th, we will be having our second STEAM Day. This is an opportunity for our students, staff, and community to come in and see what each class has been working on. From 2:00-2:45p students will be presenting to students and touring other classes around the building. From 2:45-3:30p we will open up the school so parents can see the student presentations. If any parents arrive prior to 2:45p they can come in and see what our Specials teachers have been working on with their STEAM projects. In addition, we will be hosting the grand opening of our Indoor Amphitheater at 3:00p. This project was done in collaboration with the Chaparral High School Interior Design class. The entire renovation process was done by students. Please join us at 3:00p for the opening.
