Sound Studio

Announcing the official launch of the CHS STAR Lab/Interact Club Sound Studio

Mission Statement (Student Crafted):

    Short Term: To create a Sound Studio to record/mix vocals and mix tracks outside of school hours.

    Long Term: To further develop into an instructional environment to teach music production.

In August 2015, a group of STAR Lab students decided to try to build a Sound Studio on the CHS campus. Across five class periods, students collaborated to plan and design what the studio would be. During the rest of the 2015-16 school year, the following students participated in 45-minute weekly meetings to brainstorm, organize, prioritize, and consolidate the five individual plans into one proposal that they presented to Administration for approval to use space adjacent to the STAR Lab classroom. A grant from Westerra Credit Union provided seed money. Students identified the needed equipment. Using his experience working in professional recording studios, Josh Faulkner transformed the students’ list into an equipment order. Josh spent time after school to identify which specific brand and type of equipment would best match items on the wish list to suit the stated mission of the Sound Studio. The needed equipment was then purchased or donated.

Beginning in August 2016, students worked to transform the two designated rooms into an isolation booth (where the artist performs) and a control/tracking room (where the audio is recorded and produced). Students chose Chaparral school colors as a color scheme, designed a paint pattern, painted the rooms, hung acoustic panels, and set up the equipment. These students spent time after school, on weekends, during Fall, Winter, and Spring breaks to create a working sound studio: Chloe Baker, Michaiah Campbell, Noah Johnson, Zach Myers, Ed Hayner, Kevin Riley, Brandon Snoke, Nathan Gee, Trace Gares, Logan Hunt, Taylor Zoglmann, Josh Faulkner, Alex West, Mason Brown, Storm McMillen, Kyle Potts, Chase Witherell, and others.

Custodian Paul Woehrner painted the Wolverine Logo and assisted with the Acoustic Panels.

The studio is now functional and available to anyone in the Chaparral community for recording audio tracks.

The following students have lent their talents for trial recording sessions to test the equipment, to establish procedures for how it is to be used, and to create initial recorded musical and vocal tracks:

District News

DCSD Faculty Art Show goes through Nov. 1

It is easy to see the creativity of Douglas County School District students. It is often on display in the art that graces the walls and display cases of our schools. This month, however, is a chance to see the skill and the passion of the art teachers behind it all.

 

Last spring she was one of only eight teachers to be honored with the Freddie G award. The award came with a trip to New York for master classes taught by industry professionals. She also led a trip to Sacramento for the Junior Theater Festival with seven of her students. To top it off she was given a $5000 grant for the school’s theater program. She plans on using the money to build a technical theater learning lab with the help of her students.
