Homeless Students

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act provides help for students who live in any of the following situations:

 

  • In a shelter, motel, vehicle, or campground
  • On the street
  • In an abandoned building, trailer, or other inadequate accomodations
  • "Doubled up" with friends or relatives because their family cannot find or afford housing

The DCSD Homeless Liaison provides assistance with:

  • Accountability for educational services in accordance with federal mandates
  • Case management of homeless students
  • Resource to school staff and training
  • Community resoource referral information

The DCSD Homeless Education Program provides assistance with:

  • Program enrollment
  • Transportaion to school of origin
  • Free lunch
  • Back pack and school supplies
  • Resource referrals
