Amendment 73 Resources

DCSD Board of Education statement on Amendment 73:

Since the November 2017 election, the DCSD Board has been committed to improving transparency, accountability, fiscal management, parent/community engagement and structures that support students performance.  This has included defining the District’s focus through prioritizing end/goal statements, selecting a new superintendent, and understanding the district’s financial needs.  This led to the decision to place two local initiatives on the ballot: a mill levy override and bond election. While we are aware that there are other state Amendments and Propositions on the 2018 Ballot (see:  https://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/elections/Initiatives/ballot/contacts/2018.html) that would have an impact on educational funding, the Board will focus on DCSD’s mill levy override and bond election initiatives.

One example of the proposed state-level initiatives is Amendment 73.  If Amendment 73 passes, DCSD would be the recipient of $102.4 M in ongoing revenue.  Potential targeted areas for improvement/enhancement would include class size, recruitment/retention of teachers and staff, transportation, early childhood education, full-day kindergarten, and additional student programming (e.g. special education, gifted/talented, and ESL).  Additional information about this initiative can be found at https://www.casb.org/domain/195

We respect and encourage voters’ individual responsibility to become informed on State-level initiatives and vote accordingly.  Individual Board Directors are more than willing to share their personal views on State-level initiatives when contacted. However, as a collective Board we will remain solely focused on our District/local initiatives:  5A and 5B.
