Safety and Security in DCSD

Thanks to those of you who have provided us with input about how best to keep our students safe. I want you to know we are listening to your feedback and will refer to it as we look to build upon our current, comprehensive safety plan. In addition to the research-based security protocols being implemented in our schools, I want to outline several steps DCSD is taking for additional security measures. These security enhancements have already been in the works thanks to additional funding made possible by the passage of a $40 million mill levy override and $250 million bond this past November.

Celebrating Public Schools Week

Today, U.S. News & World Report named Douglas County, Colorado the healthiest community in America. This is amazing news and certainly something to celebrate. Of course, as superintendent of the great Douglas County School District -- I also want to see Douglas County named the top school district to receive a high-quality public school education. And, that’s exactly why Douglas County School District is joining thousands of other schools and districts to celebrate the second annual Public Schools Week.

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King was also passionate about giving back to others, which is what our teachers do every day. When I started as a teacher, I didn’t do it for money or in hopes of becoming a superintendent. I did it because I was passionate about educating children -- the next generation and the future of this great country. And I know that each and every one of the educators here in Douglas County feels exactly the same way. This profession is all about giving back -- by passing along wisdom, education and character to tomorrow’s leaders.
