UPDATE ON GRADUATION CEREMONIES

May 22, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2020,

I hope my message finds all of you and your loved ones doing well. I want to take this opportunity to update you on where we are in planning for commencement ceremonies in the Douglas County School District (DCSD).

The past few weeks have been incredible as our principals, staff, and school communities have taken time to celebrate our amazing students; especially our Class of 2020. Over the past couple of weeks, DCSD building leaders and Central Office staff have continued in-depth discussions about graduation ceremony options.

What our graduation celebrations will ultimately look like is still very much dependent on any social distancing orders in place at the time of those graduations. Governor Polis’ Safer-at-Home Public Health Order is currently set to expire on May 27, however, he has indicated that he can amend or extend that order at any time.

DCSD high schools are prepared to proceed with graduation planning, but I’ve asked them to wait a few more days to see what action Governor Polis takes next week so that we can truly be aligned with each other, the Colorado Department of Education, and the Tri-County Health Department. Whether the Safer-at-Home Public Health Order is extended or relaxed will shape the direction of our upcoming graduations, including whether a “traditional”  in-person component will or will not be possible.

As soon as we are able to work through any changes that Governor Polis shares, you can expect an email from my office outlining our next steps regarding graduation ceremonies. Our graduation events will follow guidelines that are set forth and approved by the Tri-County Health Department as we strive to help keep our students and community safe.

I thank you for your continued support of the Douglas County School District. It is important that we stay united during this pandemic. I am confident we will get through this stronger together.

Should you need to reach me, please do not hesitate to call or email.

Proud to serve as your Superintendent,

Thomas S. Tucker, Ph.D.

April 10, 2020

Dear DCSD Class of 2020,

While we are currently facing a collective state of uncertainty and transition in our community, I am certain all of us can say the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the Class of 2020 tops the list.

Each of you has worked hard over the past 13 years to reach to this point; and each of you has experienced many milestones along the way culminating in your senior year of high school. I know you are experiencing a range of emotions such as anger, disappointment, sadness, and even fear. I feel these emotions with you, and for you. Despite this, I know that the pandemic does not define the Class of 2020. The impact, experiences, and memories of the past 13 years cannot be erased. So please keep your head up. You have so much to look forward to and I wish you nothing but success in your future.

I am pleased to announce that the Douglas County School District will provide an opportunity for families to come together to celebrate the Class of 2020. Later this morning you will hear from your principal with specific details regarding your respective upcoming graduations.

I am looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2020!

I recognize the new graduation ceremony dates may not work for every senior and family. However, in this unprecedented time of uncertainty, we will do our very best to celebrate all that the Class of 2020 has to offer the world. You will never be forgotten!

Sincerely,

Thomas S. Tucker, Ph.D.
Superintendent

Live Streaming

Graduates

Douglas County School District is proud to offer live streaming of all of its graduations.

It is important to note: Live streaming is reliant on a number of factors, many of which are not in the control of the Douglas County School District, including the Internet service provided by third-party institutions/companies. DCSD endeavors to provide a high-quality broadcast of our graduations, but occasionally, due to unforeseen circumstances, this may not be possible. In those cases, DCSD will do its best to provide video clips of the ceremonies afterwards.

Links to live stream broadcasts for each school's graduation will be added soon
