John Gutierrez, Executive Director of Schools John Gutierrez serves as the Executive Director of Schools (EDOS) for the East Highlands Ranch region. He has been an educator for 31 years, most recently serving for 17 years as the principal of Cougar Run Elementary (a National Blue Ribbon School in 2014-15). John was named DCSD Administrator of the Year at the 2021 Apple Awards. He is a proud Douglas County resident and parent. John is a Colorado native and his entire educational career has taken place within the Denver/Metro area.

Prior to being a principal, he served as a teacher, baseball coach, Dean and Assistant Principal. He has over 23 years of extensive school administration experience and is a strong believer in the effective use of Professional Learning Communities and the philosophy of Servant Leadership. John holds a Colorado Principal License as well as a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching from Colorado State University.
