Dear DCSD Community,

I am pleased to announce that we have selected three individuals to serve as Cabinet members for the Douglas County School District. Due to recent vacancies and resignations, I have been working to restructure our leadership team and am thrilled to announce that Danelle Hiatt and Andy Abner will serve as the new DCSD Deputy Superintendents, while Sid Rundle will serve as the new DCSD Special Education Services Officer.

Danelle began her career in DCSD as an Educational Assistant in 1997. She has served as a special education teacher, intervention coordinator, assistant principal at Cresthill Middle School, principal at Pine Lane Elementary School, Elementary Director of Schools and most recently as an Executive Director of Schools in DCSD. Danelle has advanced experience developing, monitoring and evaluating K-12 curriculum, instruction and assessment practices, along with overseeing PK-12 feeder schools. She knows how to support diverse school communities and advocate for the needs of every student. Danelle has a Colorado Administrator/Superintendent License and a Masters of Arts in Special Education.

Andy comes to us from DCSD’s Rock Canyon High School where he has served as the Principal since 2011. He, along with his staff and families, elevated Rock Canyon to an elite level, with the school ranking amongst the top of our state and nation. Andy started as a career/technical education teacher, with his educational journey also including roles as a general classroom teacher, dean of students and assistant principal at Douglas County High School. He has a strong ability to lead others in a data-driven, collaborative model of leadership to discover creative solutions for goals and challenges. He has been a member of the DCSD family since 2002. Andy has a Colorado Principal License and a Masters of Arts in Education, Administration and Supervision.

Sid is a familiar face in Highlands Ranch, serving as the Principal of DCSD’s Cresthill Middle School since 2008. His educational journey has included time spent as a special education teacher/learning specialist, reading interventionist, professional learning specialist and assistant principal. Sid is a strong coach and mentor in developing staff who have become assistant principals and principals in DCSD. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure all students have access to a comprehensive and aligned education that best meets their needs. He has spent his entire career in DCSD, starting in 1992. Sid has a Colorado Principal License and a Masters of Arts in Special Education.

I also want to share that Assistant Superintendent Ted Knight and Personalized Learning Officer Nancy Ingalls have accepted positions outside DCSD. I hope you join me in wishing them the best.

The Assistant Superintendent position will transition to one of the two Deputy Superintendent roles. Additionally, you may recall that our Chief Academic Officer position was vacated back in October 2020. Duties from that role were absorbed by other staff, allowing for the hiring of the second Deputy Superintendent position. The Personalized Learning Officer position has transitioned to the Special Education Services Officer role.

With change comes opportunity and I am proud to work alongside all of our staff to move DCSD forward. I know Danelle, Andy and Sid are ready to bring our community together for the benefit of all of our students. Congratulations to our leaders!
