Six DCSD Schools Receive New Flooring

Six Douglas County schools received flooring replacements thanks to new local funding approved by voters last November:

Eagle Ridge Elementary, Castle Rock Middle School, Chaparral High School, Mountain Vista High School, Ponderosa High School, and ThunderRidge High School.

The old carpet was replaced by tougher carpet that, with regular maintenance, lasts well beyond its 25-year warranty. The carpet itself will support a healthier indoor environment by promoting good air quality and reducing ambient sound. At Ponderosa High School new carpet replaced flooring that was dated, difficult to clean, and hard to replace.

“I’ve been at Ponderosa for 30 years, and I’ve never seen the building look better!” exclaimed Principal Tim Ottmann. “The new flooring has instilled a new sense of pride within our student body, teachers, staff and community. They love the new modern look.”Ponderosa High School

Even Principal Greg Gotchey at Chaparral High School was glad to see his school’s old flooring go: “it made our school’s appearance look old. It was not the image we wanted for Chaparral High School.”

In other schools, crews ripped up old tile and replaced it with luxury vinyl tile that uses 3-D printing to add realistic depth and high-performance durability.

“[The new vinyl tile] doesn’t require stripping and waxing, which will end up saving the district time and money in the long run,” explains Project Manager Eric McCain.

More school buildings will receive flooring replacements over the next five years.
