Medical, Dental, Vision, & Life Insurance Benefits

We are dedicated to serving Douglas County School District employees by offering and administering value-based employee benefits to eligible employees.

Benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Long Term Disability, Leave of Absence, Short Term Disability, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Retirement Accounts and an Employee Assistance Program.  As part of this process, we strive to ensure compliance with HIPAA and State and Federal regulations.

Leaves of Absence

If you are off work 8 days or longer, even if you have enough accrued sick days available to cover your absence, you must complete documentation to request a leave of absence. If you fail to follow the correct Leave Procedures, your pay and benefits may be affected. All employees on a Leave of Absence must apply for short term disability through Standard Insurance. The short term disability plan through Standard has a waiting period of 14 calendar days (10 work days). Those days are to be paid using accrued sick and/or personal days. If you do not have 10 sick and/or personal days, the difference between your accrued days and the 10 day waiting period will be unpaid days.
 

Steps to be completed for the Leave of Absence process:

  • Complete and submit the Leave of Absence Request with your administrator’s signature
  • If eligible for FMLA, fax the Certification of Health Care Provider (FMLA) completed by your treating physician to 720-433-0082
  • File a short term disability claim with Standard Insurance by calling 1-800-378-2395
  • Any changes in your leave status should be reported to Benefits and Standard Insurance
  • Positions with lifting requirements will require a Fitness for Duty prior to return to work
  • Complete the Return from Leave Notification the first day of your return and submit the form to Diane Mowery with your administrator’s signature in order to be re-activated as an active employee and receive a paycheck.

Douglas County School District values the health of all our employees! We provide programs to encourage and engage employees to succeed in their wellness goals. Staff wellness programs have been proven to be positive and create a supportive environment. 

DCSD employees earn wellness points for annual wellness exams, dentist visits, volunteer work, participating in community races and much more! Employee Assistance Program

With Horizon’s EAP, employees can confidentially address and resolve their day-to-day personal and workplace challenges—resulting in a more focused and productive workforce.

DCSD has provided up to 6 face-to-face sessions per employee and household member per issue per year. Counseling services are provided at no charge to employees and their household members. Horizon offers short-term counseling on all aspects of life, including:

  • Difficulties in Relationships
  • Emotional/Psychological Issues
  • Stress & Anxiety Issues with Work or Family
  • Alcohol & Drug Abuse
  • Personal & Life Improvement
  • Legal or Financial Issues
  • Depression
  • Childcare Issues
  • Eldercare Issues
  • Grief Issues

The EAP is a no cost benefit available to you and your immediate family members. The program is completely confidential. Through the EAP you have access to qualified and experienced mental health professionals who can assist you in dealing with a range of personal and work related issues. The EAP is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Retirement

Retirement brings a period of leisure time that a working life makes difficult. This is a time to engage in activities and hobbies that you did not have the time to manage with the responsibilities of a busy career which may have included parenting responsibilities as well. Responsible retirement planning enables you to make your retirement years a fun time to pursue other adventures. 

Douglas County School District offers you a variety of voluntary plans to participate in to help you achieve your retirement goals. These plans include a 403(b) and 457 plans through AXA-Equitable and MetLife and a 401(k) plan through PERA.
