Superintendent Messages

May 5-May 9 is Employee Appreciation Week in the Douglas County School District. Join us in thanking our staff for their hard work and all they do to make DCSD the best school district!

Superintendent Kane gives an update on the school district and Chief Technology Officer Mark Blair demonstrates some useful AI tools.

State assessments play a vital role in understanding student learning and ensuring that we are providing the best possible education for every child. These assessments also help us demonstrate to our parents and community at large, the quality of education DCSD students are receiving.

There are many benefits to students, families, and schools when students participate in state assessments.

Spring Break is here and Superintendent Kane wants to thank our voters for passing 5A and provide an update as we begin the improvements around our school district. We look forward to finishing the school year on a high note!

Here in the Douglas County School District, our School Resource Officers (SROs) serve as a bridge between our students, law enforcement and our community. We would like to thank all the law enforcement officers who serve our students and staff as we celebrate National School Resource Officer Day on February 15.

DCSD Superintendent Erin Kane wishes the staff, students, and families of the Douglas County School District a very happy holiday season and a relaxing Winter Break. Superintendent Kane thanks the community for passing the school district's bond initiative in November 2024. She also highlights some community service projects at some of DCSD's elementary schools.

For most of our schools, Fall Break is just a few days away. I hope the break is full of fun, family, and relaxation for our students and families.

Last week marked the exciting kickoff meetings for our school district's next strategic plan. For those who were able to join us, your presence and insights were invaluable. If you were unable to attend, please don't worry! We've prepared a recording of one of the sessions, which offers a glimpse into the rapidly evolving technological landscape and its potential impact on our students' future careers.

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!

This morning I, along with members of my Cabinet, our Executive Directors of Schools, and Board of Education directors, had the absolute pleasure of visiting every school that was celebrating their first day of the new school year. It is so much fun to welcome our staff and students back. Nothing beats that first day of school energy and excitement. Of course, we still have a few schools to welcome back in the coming days and weeks but we can officially say that the new school year is off to a great start!

For most of our schools, today marks the official last day of the 2023-2024 school year. It has been an incredible year filled with many successes. That simply would not be possible without the amazing partnerships we have with our families. Thank you for entrusting us with your incredible kids this year.

Superintendent Erin Kane and Douglas County School Board Vice President Christy Williams take a moment to thank the voters of Douglas County for the passing of 5A. The community's continued support of the DCSD staff helps to guarantee the best possible learning environment for our students.

I hope you are staying warm on this chilly evening. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that our amazing Snow Team is closely monitoring the incoming winter storm. With this being one of the first storms of the season, I thought it would be a good time to quickly provide a little more information about how we determine when a delay or closure (snow day) is needed versus when we decide to keep schools open as normal.
