Meet Superintendent Erin Kane

Erin Kane is the Superintendent of the Douglas County School District (DCSD). DCSD is the third-largest school district in Colorado, the largest employer in Douglas County, and is the #1 performing school district in the Denver area. 

Under Erin's leadership, DCSD has become a national leader in academics and innovation, while building a positive and supportive culture for the school district’s staff and students. 

During Erin’s tenure as superintendent, DCSD has achieved many milestones, including: 

  • Soaring Academically: DCSD has the highest test scores in the Denver area and is one of the few school districts nationwide to meet or even exceed pre-pandemic test scores across all subjects and grades.
  • Nationally Recognized Excellence: DCSD’s proficiency levels have increased across all student groups, earning the district’s schools prestigious awards like the John Irwin Award of Excellence and the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award.
  • Leading the Way in Innovation: DCSD has pioneered micro-credentialing programs with higher education partners, expanded its Career and Technical Education and Concurrent Enrollment pathways, and is utilizing AI solutions to personalize learning for students.
  • Boosting Staff Morale: DCSD has experienced a significant increase in staff and teacher retention by boosting pay and fostering a truly collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Strong Financial Stewardship: DCSD has successfully secured vital funding, including a $66 million Mill Levy Override and a $490 million bond initiative, helping the district address staff pay and essential facility needs.

Erin is a champion for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and ensuring equal opportunities for every single student, setting them up for incredible success after graduation. Her unwavering dedication to a positive school climate, operational excellence, building community trust, and setting high expectations helps DCSD continue to shine as a national leader in education.

Erin’s leadership has earned her a variety of awards, including The Traci Davis & Dr. Susan Enfield She-Roic Leadership Award from the Institute of Education Innovation and the 2024 Castle Rock Advocate Award. She was also a 2024 and 2025 nominee for Colorado Superintendent of the Year. 

Before joining DCSD, Erin was the Executive Director of Schools at American Academy. She also brings extensive experience from the high-tech industry, having held leadership roles in technology consulting and software development. 

Erin holds a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Colorado.
