Teacher Appreciation 2020

National Teacher Appreciation Week 2020
Posted on 05/04/2020
Thank you 2020The first full week of May is National Teacher Appreciation Week. On behalf of the Douglas County School District, I would like to express my deep appreciation to our teachers for the heroic work they do each day to ensure the success of each of our students. Our talented professional educators provide high-quality teaching, learning and emotional support to ensure our students are prepared for college, career and life.

As I discussed during our Strategic Plan Launch in September, the changing landscape in Colorado education presents many complexities and the Douglas County School District has stepped up to the challenge. Our teachers chip away with unrelenting passion and professional determination in wanting to advance our students and community while fulfilling responsibilities to their own children and families.

As in-person school instruction has halted across the country since March, it has become more clear than ever that teachers are as essential as our brave healthcare workers and first responders. Like an eagle, our educators have soared above what they were trained to do, and shifted to remote teaching and learning with less than a moment’s notice. They have found innovative solutions to meet the needs of our community in crisis. For example, DCSD engineering teachers teamed up with our healthcare partners at Sky Ridge Medical Center to create and give away over 400 protective face shields and intubation boxes.

The work our teachers do, and their ability to persevere during these challenging times is truly remarkable.

We can all think of a great teacher who has positively touched our lives. Therefore, let’s be sure to thank our teachers and celebrate them this week and into the future.

With much gratitude,

Thomas S. Tucker. Ph.D.
