Dear DCSD Family,
I would like to begin by thanking you for your tireless leadership, patience, and commitment to our students, families, and communities during this unprecedented time. You have gracefully navigated challenges that have never been faced and done so with resolve, perseverance, and a commitment to do what is truly best for our students, families, and teachers.
With the Governor’s announcement of the extension of the school closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) staff are in the process of coordinating how we will wrap up the remainder of this school year, and the pick-up of student personal belongings from school buildings.
(If your child attends a Douglas County School District charter school, please check in with your school directly for end-of-year information.)

Status of Summer Programs
All DCSD buildings will remain closed through June 30, 2020.
Due to the closure of DCSD’s facilities,
all summer learning will continue to be
remote. This includes
summer school, credit recovery, extended school year, and any other academic enrichment activities. School staff will be contacting families of qualifying students in the upcoming weeks to share more information around these programs.
Please note,
on-site BASE programs will be closed through June 30; however, our BASE staff is working to develop fun, educational
virtual opportunities for children. More information will be forthcoming.
Summer sports, facility rentals, camps, and other summer programming are canceled through June 30.
We will continue to monitor the situation and assess whether we can re-open summer programming in July.
Summer Access to DCSD Building and Facilities
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. In accordance with the guidance from our health department and governing officials to keep our students and staff safe,
Douglas County School District will maintain the closure of all of its facilities (schools, central office buildings, etc.) through June 30. This closure includes all in-person instruction, athletics/activities, BASE (before and after school care), outdoor education, DCSD sponsored field trips/camps, and facility rentals. In addition, in order to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we ask our families and students to avoid playgrounds, ballparks, athletic fields, tracks, etc. that are
located on DCSD properties.
Graduation Ceremonies
As previously communicated, DCSD is continuing to move forward with the planning of graduation ceremonies, which are tentatively scheduled for the week of June 23, 2020. DCSD also has contingency dates and plans in late July if the June ceremonies are unable to happen. Graduation ceremony information can be found on our
website.
Refunds of Student Fees
As communicated on April 24, credit and refunds for items such as parking, bus transportation, preschool or BASE tuition, spring sports fees, etc. will be provided within the next 4-5 weeks.
More information is available on our website.
We will continue to provide updates and links to resources on the
COVID-19 page of our website.
Thank you again for your continued partnership. I look forward to finishing out our school year and continuing to work together as a community to ensure our students remain Resilient and Ready for the future!
Proud to serve as your Superintendent,
