Dear DCSD Families,

This week marks DCSD Employee Appreciation Week and I hope I can count on you to join me in saying THANK YOU to our school district’s amazing staff!

As I’ve been out visiting with schools and departments, I have been so incredibly impressed. Our employees are some of the most passionate and dedicated people that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Every single staff member contributes to providing DCSD students with the best and brightest futures possible and I greatly appreciate everyone’s amazing contributions to our DCSD family!

During this week, I encourage you to join me in expressing appreciation for all of our amazing staff. If you wish to show special appreciation to your child’s teacher(s), bus drivers/bus assistants, kitchen staff, school custodians, principals, coaches, nurses/health assistants, front office staff, etc. here are ways to honor them:

  • Nominate them during DCSD Employee Appreciation Week (May 2-6) and they will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $50 Visa Gift Card, compliments of Kaiser Permanente. Thank you to our DCSD Staff Wellness department and Kaiser Permanente for making this fun incentive possible!

  • Write a note of appreciation (feel free to ask for a blank DCSD Employee Appreciation card) at your school’s front office.

  • Send a kind email.

  • Tell them, in-person, face-to-face, how they are making a difference in DCSD!

  • Encourage your child to write a thank you note or draw a special picture.

  • Email them a short video message from your student and/or your whole family.

This week also marks both National and Colorado Teacher Appreciation Week. Another way to show special appreciation to your child’s teacher(s) is by nominating them for the 2023 Colorado Teacher of the Year Award.

The beginning of May is all about appreciation – this week also marks National School Principal Day (May 1) and National School Lunch Hero Day (May 6). And next week (May 11) we celebrate National School Nurse Day!

There are truly so many heroes amongst us and while we show extra appreciation in May – our employees are all incredibly appreciated each and every day of the year.

Sincerely,

Erin Kane
Superintendent
Douglas County School District
