Veterans Day 2020

Honoring Our Veterans and Active Service Members
Posted on 11/11/2020
Dear Douglas County School District Families and Staff,

Today, I am proud to join with you in honoring our veterans and active service members. I especially want to thank the veterans across the Douglas County community, including some former DCSD students, and some current DCSD staff members. Thank you for all you have done to provide each one of us with our freedom and safety.

Normally, I attend a variety of school assemblies and celebrations in honor of our veterans. This year, I have been incredibly proud to see how our students and educators have found creative ways to celebrate Veterans Day amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, Legacy Point Elementary is hosting a drive-through tribute and Pine Grove Elementary has photos and tributes displayed on their school lawn. Other schools have created virtual assemblies and video tributes. Here is a great snippet of a video assembly created by the Student Lighthouse Team at Redstone Elementary (the full version of the video assembly can be found here).

Thank you to our students for honoring our veterans, and to our teachers, staff, and families for educating our children about the sacrifices our veterans and service members have made for the benefit of each of us. I’m truly grateful to be part of this amazing community.

Sincerely,

Corey Wise
Interim Superintendent
Douglas County School District
