Dear DCSD Staff and Families,

 

The DCSD Board of Education is now accepting applications from residents of Board District B interested in being considered to serve on the Board.

On November 30, 2023, Mike Peterson submitted his resignation as School Board Director of District B of the Douglas County School District. We thank Mike Peterson for his service on the Douglas County School Board over the last two years.

 

On December 12, 2023, the DCSD Board of Education declared a vacancy for this Board Seat for the remainder of the term (term expires November 2025). The Board of Education has opened a Request for Board Candidates wishing to apply for appointment to the Director seat for District B. Click here to view the District B map.

 

Persons interested in being considered for appointment to this seat should complete the nomination form no later than Friday, January 5, 2024 at noon. Candidates for appointment must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Be a registered elector of at least 18 years of age; and

  • Be a resident of the Douglas County School District for at least twelve (12) prior consecutive months, as shown on the books of the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder; and

  • Be a current resident of Douglas County School District Director District Band

  • Have not been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to, or received a deferred judgment or sentence for sexual offense against a child.

 

Those selected for an interview will be notified on the evening of Monday, January 8 and will be expected to appear for a public interview with the DCSD Board of Education on Thursday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. (620 Wilcox St., Castle Rock, CO 80104).

 

At the Regular Board Meeting on the evening of Tuesday, January 23, the Board will interview finalists and make the appointment to the vacant seat.

Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
