Elementary Schools 50 & 51 Attendance Boundaries

As approved by voters, the 2024 Bond for Douglas County School District will fund the construction of two new neighborhood elementary schools; one in the Lyric subdivision in Lone Tree and one in the Sterling Ranch development. Until officially named, these schools are called Elementary School 50 and Elementary School 51, respectively.

Elementary Schools 50 and 51 are scheduled to open in August 2027 and will accept enrollment for the 2027-2028 school year in November 2026. Those students who reside within the attendance boundaries of the new schools and are in the grades served by the school will be eligible to attend.

Final boundary assignments for the two schools will need to be completed by the end of the 2025-2026 school year in order to notify DCSD households of any new or changed school assignment(s) and choice enrollment options. Final boundary assignments are also needed by the end of the school year in order to forecast enrollment, budget, staff, and continuous school capacity and capital planning.

The Board of Education will consider staff-recommended boundary assignments for the two schools at their regular meeting on May 12.The DCSD Board of Education reviewed the staff recommended boundaries for these new schools at their February 10 and March 3 meetings. What is a School Boundary?

A school boundary is a geographic area that determines which residences are assigned to attend each neighborhood school. Understanding school boundaries is important, as it helps our families when making decisions about where to live and which schools their children will attend. DCSD also uses these boundaries to manage enrollment growth in response to new residential development, plan for future growth, maintain balanced student populations across schools, optimize transportation logistics, and in general, allocate resources efficiently.

The areas shown in blue on the above map are assigned to Eagle Ridge Elementary School (effective for the 2026-2027 school year). The areas outlined by the white, dashed line indicate areas of residential development that are currently active or highly likely to activate in the immediate future. This area includes the RidgeGate East development which, upon full build-out, is anticipated to result in an additional 8,000-9,000 homes in the area.

Including some smaller residential infill projects occurring in the adjacent Meridian and Inverness developments, DCSD anticipates that, upon full build-out, an approximate 10,000 homes will be added to the Eagle Ridge attendance area east of Interstate 25. The anticipated student growth from this development is forecast to exceed available capacity at Eagle Ridge Elementary as well as at adjacent neighborhood elementary schools in the west Parker area and requires construction of an additional elementary school to accommodate this growth.

DCSD's staff-recommended boundary for Elementary School 50 is shown on the above map as the blue, hatched area. The proposed boundary will ensure Elementary School 50 can accommodate the continual build-out of residential development in the area and subsequent growth in student enrollment while maintaining Eagle Ridge Elementary School enrollment and facility capacity at reasonable levels. The recommended boundary will also provide current and future residents of these developments with an accessible, conveniently located neighborhood elementary school in much closer proximity to their homes than their previously assigned elementary school.

Finally, the preferred boundary was determined to be the most effective option when it comes to maintaining balanced enrollment among all neighborhood elementary schools in the area and optimization of District busing logistics.

The areas outlined in the white, dashed line indicate areas of active residential development. These areas include Solstice and Sterling Ranch developments which, upon full build-out, could result in nearly 13,000 additional homes added to the Chatfield Valley region. The anticipated student growth from this development is forecast to exceed available capacity at the current assigned neighborhood schools Roxborough Primary School and Roxborough Intermediate School as well as nearby located, neighborhood elementary schools in the west Highlands Ranch (where DCSD students residing in the Solstice and Sterling Ranch developments are currently being overflow-bused to due to lack of available school facility capacity in the area).

DCSD's staff-recommended boundary for Elementary School 51 is shown on the above map as the blue hatched area. The proposed boundary will ensure Elementary School 51 can accommodate the continual build-out of residential development in the area and subsequent growth in student enrollment while maintaining the enrollment and facility capacity of nearby neighborhood elementary schools at reasonable levels.

A large portion of students residing in this area are being overflow-bused to schools located in West Highlands Ranch. The recommended boundary will provide these students (as well as future students residing in these growing developments) with an additional, accessible, conveniently located option which is much closer to their homes. The proposed boundaries will completely resolve the current overflow-busing system in place for the area. In addition, the DCSD transportation staff anticipates that under the proposed boundaries, there will be a significant reduction in bus-ride times for student riders as well as the total number of routes needed to serve the area.

Choosing Schools; Changing Boundaries

Students located in the final adopted Elementary School 50 and Elementary School 51 boundaries will have the option of staying at their current school(s) of attendance or enrolling at the new elementary schools. However, for these households, school busing will only be provided to those students choosing to attend the newly assigned Elementary School 50 or Elementary School 51. According to DCSD policy, students must attend their assigned neighborhood schools to be eligible for bus service.

Along with the Elementary School 51 attendance boundary, the DCSD staff is recommending the following boundary changes to adjacent elementary neighborhood school attendance boundaries. These adjustments would become effective in the 2027-2028 school year. The Board of Education is expected to vote on these recommendations at its regular meeting on May 12.

Mountain Vista High School Feeder

Homes located directly west of Kendrick Castillo Way will be reassigned from Northridge Elementary School to Trailblazer Elementary. This reassignment also changes these homes from the Mountain Vista High School Feeder to the ThunderRidge High School Feeder.

This change is proposed to be effective for the 2027-2028 school year. Households in this area with students enrolled at Northridge ES, Mountain Ridge MS, and Mountain Vista HS will have the option of keeping their student(s) enrolled at those schools or enrolling in their newly assigned schools of Trailblazer ES, Ranch View MS, or ThunderRidge HS.

Homes located in the Chatfield Acres and Chatfield East subdivision (and located directly south of Coyote Creek Elementary School and Stone Mountain Elementary School) will be reassigned from Roxborough Primary and Intermediate Schools to Coyote Creek Elementary. This change is proposed to be effective for the 2027-2028 school year. Households in this area with students enrolled at Roxborough Primary or Roxborough Intermediate will have the option of keeping their student(s) enrolled at those schools or enrolling at the newly assigned Coyote Creek Elementary School.

Homes located directly east of the Chatfield Reservoir and Santa Fe Railway tracks but west of U.S. Highway 85/Santa Fe Drive will be reassigned from Roxborough Primary and Intermediate Schools to Trailblazer Elementary. This change is proposed to be effective for the 2027-2028 school year. Households in this area with students enrolled at Roborough Primary or Intermediate Schools will have the option of keeping their student(s) enrolled at these schools or enrolling at the newly assigned Trailblazer Elementary School.
