Prevention and Behavior Supports

Prevention in DCSD

Douglas County School District focuses on proactive strategies and programs designed to promote a positive and safe school culture while ensuring that all students develop their individual strengths to support their social, emotional, and physical well-being.

We help all students develop the knowledge, skills, mindsets, and dispositions needed to achieve their highest individual potential in a safe, accessible, thriving, and welcoming learning environment.

DCSD Foundational Practices are the core of how we deliver and support these prevention-focused structures. There are three foundational practices that research proves are critical to the success of all students:

Supportive Environments

  • Consistent expectations, norms, and routines

  • Co-regulating and restorative practices

  • Culturally responsive

Positive Developmental Relationships

  • Teacher-student relationships

  • Trust building

  • Family and community partnerships

Integration of Knowledge, Skills, and Mindsets

  • Intentional integration of academic content with

     mindsets, behaviors, and essential skills

  • Integration of wellness supports proven to regulate and support whole child wellness
