​Notice of Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity

In compliance with Titles VI & VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, and Colorado law, the Douglas County School District RE-1 does not unlawfully discriminate against otherwise qualified students, employees, applicants for employment, or members of the public on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, religion, ancestry, or need for special education services. Discrimination against employees and applicants for employment based on age, genetic information, and conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth is also prohibited in accordance with state and/or federal law.

What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of sex, stating that:

No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” 20 U.S.C. Sec. 1681(a)

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Nondiscrimination of Students:
The DCSD Board of Education is committed to the policy that no otherwise qualified student shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any District program or activity on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity, national origin, religion, or ancestry.  See DCSD Policy JBA.

Nondiscrimination of Employees:
Commitment on the part of the district towards equal employment opportunity shall apply to all people without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, creed, religion, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity, disability, age, genetic information, or conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth.
