Media Resources

We are passionate about our work. Every morning we get up, ready to have great conversations with our students, parents, employees, and community about DCSD, what we have accomplished, and where we are going.

We know that representing more than 61,000 students and 7,600 employees is a big responsibility and one that we take seriously.

DCSD Communications offers assistance to print, online, and broadcast media. Our office assists in scheduling on-air interviews with our principals, district administration, teachers, and staff, as well as our superintendent and Board of Education members.

All news media inquiries regarding the school district, its schools, and/or its departments and programs should first be referred to the Communications Team to ensure the most timely and accurate response.

DCSD Board of Education Unanimously Approves School Consolidation Recommendations

In a unanimous 7-0 vote, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) Board of Education approved staff recommendations to consolidate six elementary schools in Highlands Ranch into three. The school pairings, which will be effective for the 2026-2027 school year, are as follows:

  • Saddle Ranch Elementary will consolidate into Eldorado Elementary
  • Heritage Elementary will consolidate into Summit View Elementary
  • Acres Green Elementary will consolidate into Fox Creek Elementary

After nearly two years of careful planning and evaluation, these school consolidations are the result of extensive analysis to address declining enrollment in parts of Highlands Ranch and to ensure that all students have access to a comprehensive, well-rounded education with full staffing and resources.

90-MINUTE DELAY - Thursday, February 13

The Douglas County School District will be on a 90-MINUTE DELAY on Thursday, February 13, due to low temperatures and wind chills forecasted for the early morning hours. A delay will allow more time for temperatures to rise so that students and staff are not at risk of frostbite while walking to school, waiting for the bus, or manning carlines. In addition, this will help us ensure our buses and buildings are warm and comfortable for students and staff.

A 90-MINUTE DELAY means that schools and buses are delayed by an hour and a half.

DCSD: 90-MINUTE DELAY - Tuesday, January 21

The Douglas County School District will be on a 90-MINUTE DELAY on Tuesday, January 21, due to forecasted low temperatures in the morning.

The windchill is expected to be well below zero at daybreak tomorrow. In that environment, frostbite is a very real risk for any exposed skin. A delay will give temperatures a chance to rise so that we don’t have kids waiting at bus stops and walking to school, or staff outside manning car lines during the cold early morning hours. Thankfully, temperatures are forecasted to warm up during the day with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.
