Our own DCSD Superintendent Erin Kane was recently recognized with a truly special honor: the Traci Davis & Dr. Susan Enfield She-Roic Leadership Award from the Institute for Education Innovation (IEI). This amazing recognition celebrates her profound commitment to equity, empowerment and making education shine for every member of our community.
Superintendent Kane accepted this meaningful award at The Supes’ Choice Awards on November 10. Supt. Kane was applauded for “leading with conviction and heart” and for her wonderful way of “transforming systems and renewing competence in public education and community.” They also specially highlighted her “belief in collaboration - not theoretical but visible, and deeply felt across DCSD.” What a perfect description of her approach!
The IEI shared a lovely message on their LinkedIn page, saying: “Few embody that truth more than Erin Kane, whose courage, clarity, and compassion have redefined leadership in Douglas County. She stepped into her role during a challenging time and brought stability, transparency, and trust back to her community, always centering students and the people who serve them.”
Thanks to Supt. Kane’s warm and dedicated leadership, Douglas County has seen incredible progress - closing opportunity gaps, strengthening the ways our educators teach, and fostering a wonderful culture where students, educators and families feel truly valued and heard.
Perhaps the nomination said it best: “What makes Supt. Kane remarkable isn’t just her strategic mind; it’s her humanity. She listens deeply, leads with grace under pressure and stays grounded in purpose.”
The Supes’ Choice Awards are a great reminder to celebrate those special individuals who lead with courage, creativity and a steadfast commitment to making a real, positive difference for our students.
