DCSD Nurse Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

School Nurse

Nurse Kelly Driver

Congratulations to Douglas County School District Nurse and Diabetes Resource/Special Projects Lead Kelly Driver for being honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Association of School Nurses (CASN).

Since joining DCSD in 1997, Kelly Driver has advanced student health through her work as the Diabetes Resource Nurse, including co-developing the annual Colorado Kids with Diabetes Care and Prevention Collaborative: Standards of Care.

Her expertise also includes co-authoring the Colorado Guidelines for Vision Screening Programs and being featured in the American Journal of Nursing for her work on medication policies. Driver also played a pioneering role in student access care by working collaboratively to develop the DCSD BASE Nurse On-Call program, ensuring year-round medical and mental health support for students.

A Nationally Certified School Nurse, Driver's comprehensive commitment to excellence and scholarly inquiry makes this recognition deserved. “I was deeply honored to accept this award, which truly belongs to the entire DCSD staff and all the incredible students I've been fortunate enough to work alongside. I am simply the recipient of this recognition for our collective achievements,” said Driver.

DCSD Director of Health, Wellness and Prevention, Dr. Kelli Smith, agrees. “Kelly is a fierce advocate for our students. She has taken our district's health processes from merely compliant to truly exemplary. By acting as a pillar of support for families struggling with diabetes diagnoses and leading the charge on early detection for hearing and vision, she has removed barriers to learning for countless students. Kelly is a leader in every sense of the word, and her legacy in DCSD is one of excellence, empathy and profound impact,” remarked Smith.

Thank you, Kelly, for leading the way to better health and practices for all of the past and future students in the Douglas County School District.
