Share Your Voice: Help Shape DCSD’s Future Academic Calendars

Share Your Voice: Help Shape DCSD’s Future Academic Calendars
Chelane Garcia-Herrada

The Douglas County School District is seeking your feedback on our academic calendars for the 2027–28, 2028–29, and 2029–30 school years.

A representative Calendar Committee made up of parents, students, teachers, school leaders, and classified staff began meeting on September 24, 2025, to develop draft calendars for these three years. The committee initially created 72 different versions reflecting variations in start dates, the inclusion of a fall break, and the possible length of both fall break and Thanksgiving Break. After several rounds of review and refinement, those drafts were narrowed to four options per year.

As part of the adoption process, we are now sharing the four options for each year all of our stakeholders. The Calendar Feedback Survey is intended to gather input and identify the most broadly supported and workable option. It is not a simple popularity vote, but a way to understand stakeholder perspectives before a final recommendation is made.

The Calendar Feedback Survey will close on March 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. For best results, please complete the survey on a computer rather than a mobile device.

Before submitting your feedback, please review the calendar options and supporting resources.

On this page, you will find:

  • DCSD Calendar Options at a Glance – A side-by-side overlay of all four options, allowing you to compare each month and each day across the calendars.
  • DCSD Calendar Options Summary – A high-level overview of the key dates in each option and when they occur.
  • DCSD Calendar Requirements & Holidays – An outline of the required elements that must appear in every calendar, along with the federal holidays observed by DCSD and the dates they will be observed.
  • An infographic explaining the difference between a Popular Vote and a Palatability Score, so you have a clear understanding of how feedback will be evaluated and used in the decision-making process.

Reviewing these materials will give you the context needed to provide informed input.

Your feedback will help guide the committee’s final recommendation, which will be presented to the DCSD Board of Education for approval and adoption. We appreciate you taking the time to participate in this important process.
