Fourth Graders Turned Published Authors
Students in Allison Slabotsky’s fourth grade class at Heritage Elementary School are now published authors! While working on a Colorado animal project, Allison partnered with Student Treasures, a book publishing company that encourages teachers to motivate students and inspire their learning through the publishing process.
After passing around a list of Colorado native animals, each student selected and wrote about their animal. The stories were compiled into one classroom book called the “Wild Wonders of Colorado.”
“Watching them hold their published work for the first time was incredibly rewarding,” said Slabotsky. “The pride they felt in creating something tangible that they could share with their families and peers was unforgettable. It showed them that their ideas and voices matter, and they can make something meaningful through hard work and creativity. I’m so proud of what they accomplished, and I hope they’ll remember the process of writing this book as a reminder that their words have power!”
Each student now has a professionally bound book showcasing their work.
