Stone Mountain Elementary Debuts New Murals in Gym
Stone Mountain Elementary Debuts New Murals in GymPosted on 07/07/2023Stone Mountain Elementary School staff took on a project to update the gym logo to align with the school’s colors and mascot. School administration, along with the PTO, helped guide and collaborate on the project design. After several designs were explored and refined, the PTO contacted local artist Phillip Bernal, who’s been painting murals and award-winning chalk art for more than twenty years.
Bernal agreed to create two murals: one mural features a bear cub’s head with a mountain in the background and the other features a mountain scene with Stone Mountain in the center. Bernal completed the project in four days and used a scissor lift to install his creations due to the scale and location of the murals.
“One of my goals as an artist is to provide clients with work that is dynamic, creative, and exceeds expectations,” said Bernal. “The project allowed me to be creative and still meet the vision that the school was seeking for the space. The response to the mural has been extremely positive and students were excited about it as well.”
Stone Mountain Elementary Principal Michelle Franci gives special thanks to the PTO for graciously paying for the mural. “It’s fantastic, and I know our students will really enjoy it for years to come,” she said.
