Eagle Academy Students Art on Display
Twenty-seven students from Douglas County School District’s Eagle Academy are making their artistic debut through Call from the Aerie: An Eagle Academy Art Show, a 2024 Winter Commissioners’ Choice Exhibition, at the Lone Tree Arts Center.
Eagle Academy art teacher Rob Rix presented the idea to The Lone Tree Arts Commission (LTAC)* and to Rix’s delight, the LTAC approved the show. Eagle Academy students worked through winter break to finish their art in time for the show’s opening reception on January 25.
Rix is thrilled that his students are participating in a professional-level art show.
“The show is an exploration of the possibilities of alternative education in the arts. Branching from my own experience as an alternative student 20 years ago, to facilitating it at Lone Tree’s only public, non-charter high school today,” said Rix.
Nearly all the pieces are available for sale, including drawings, paintings, photos, digital illustrations, and mixed media. On opening night, community members purchased around $700 worth of art. Two of the students whose art is featured graduated from Eagle Academy in January and now attend Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.
The Commissioners’ Choice program is an artist invitational that provides a unique exhibition opportunity at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Each year, the LTAC supports emerging and professional Colorado-based artists by providing a venue to display their work in a public setting.
Check out the free exhibit, which runs through March 24. The Lone Tree Arts Center is open to the public from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday, and two hours before any scheduled LTRC show.
*The Lone Tree Arts Commission is a seven-member panel that acts in an advisory capacity to the Lone Tree City Council through recommendations on the acquisition of public art and suggestions on other cultural avenues that may be of interest to the community.
