As the oldest high school in Douglas County School District, we have a rich tradition of diversity and academic excellence. Student learning is a priority at Douglas County High School, and our staff provides an increasingly diverse and challenging curriculum that gives our students a broad range of learning opportunities. Our four-year curriculum meets the needs of all students. We maintain high expectations, offer a rigorous academic program, and provide our students with a variety of co-curricular activities. Whether a student’s dream is to go to college, vocational school, the military or into the world of work immediately after high school, our teachers and staff support that dream by linking education to the future.
We continue to try new approaches to learning. This year, we are focusing on two areas for school-wide improvement, which are our Freshman Initiative and best practices in the area of literacy. Our skilled educators have been diligent in exploring a wide range of instructional strategies to determine which approaches best meet the needs of our students in our literacy model. Our freshman goal is to decrease the freshman failure rate and increase the number of freshmen who achieve 6.5 credits.

In addition to academics, we have many other areas that are critical to our continued success as a school. Our students participate in a wide variety of state-sponsored activities and athletics, in addition to school-sanctioned clubs and organizations. Students involved in these opportunities improve their leadership skills, work ethic, and critical-thinking abilities.

We are especially grateful to our hard-working and dedicated teachers for their effort and commitment. Their daily contributions and value to the success of our students cannot be overstated. Additionally, we know and acknowledge the fact that any success DCHS realizes as a school is directly attributable to the contributions of all members of its school community including: parents, teachers, students, support staff and the greater Castle Rock community.
