Mission Statement

The mission of Student Development is to build a proactive foundation of social, emotional and physical readiness that allows each student to reach his or her individual potential.

The role of the office of Student Development is to:

  • Administer and support the implementation of the district’s comprehensive activities and athletic program.

  • Facilitate, enhance and develop programs which promote healthy students and create an optimal environment for learning.

  • Promote ethical student leadership through participation in co-curricular programs.

Did you know...

  • Participation in high school sports programs increased over 13% during the 2006-2007 school year.

  • 5,335 Douglas County high school students participated in athletics last school year. There were 5,439 opportunities for activities participation.

  • The number of middle school cross country participants increased 34% for girls and 43% for boys during the 2006-2007 school year.

  • 3,159 middle school students participated in a sport last year.  43% of middle school students played at least one sport.

  • 96 secondary students completed Asset Based Intervention classes for substance abuse and behavior management during the past school year.  160.5 days of suspension were waived for students because they have taken the classes.

  • 21 Nurses serve the students and staff members of 72 charter, elementary, middle and high schools in the Douglas County School District.

  • 13,392 students in nineteen schools were impacted by Positive Behavior Support during the 2006-2007 school year.
