Transportation Redesign
Douglas County School District recently redesigned bus transportation routes for the 2009-10 school year due to budget reductions. Based on the feedback provided, DCSD made adjustments to the proposed bus routes which included the addition of stops District-wide. An expanded crossing guard program is also being added with the help of the Douglas County Public Works Walk/Ride Plan.

DCSD strives to provide the best transportation service possible to families within budgetary constraints.As you prepare your students for the coming school year, please familiarize yourself with the changes. Bus route information for the 2009-10 school year is now available, and can be accessed using the menu below. Please direct any questions to the transportation scheduler assigned to your area:

The School Safety and Security Department provides assistance 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Magnet bus stops will be located on main corridors and in easily accessible areas for those parents choosing to drive their student to and from the stop.

Municipalities and densely populated areas:

Elementary corridor bus stops will generally be located at parks, fire stations, schools and intersections. Stops could be located up to approximately 1 mile from a student’s home. Buses may enter gated communities, but will utilize magnet stops along main corridor streets. Buses will travel on county maintained roads.

Middle School and High School Magnet Stops will generally be located on main roads, at parks, fire stations, schools, and some intersections. Student homes could be approximately 2 miles from the stop location. Buses may enter gated communities, and will utilize magnet stops along main corridor streets. Buses will travel on county maintained roads.

Magnet stop processes:

Buses plan to arrive at origination magnet stops 7-10 minutes before departure. Students are encouraged to time their arrival at these stops within this time window so they can immediately board a bus. Bus drivers will supervise students immediately on arrival to stop area. When a bus is full, it will immediately depart for school to reduce congestion at stops.

Rural Stops

Elementary Corridor Stops:

Buses will travel on county maintained roads in the County with stops located for parents at the end of driveways or areas for safe student pick up and drop off. Stops will be located at intersections, fire stations, and parks. Stops could be located approximately more than one mile from a student’s home. In some situations K-12 students will travel together to central locations where shuttles can differentiate travel into town for middle / high school students.

Middle School and High School Magnet Stops:

Stops will be located at intersections, fire stations, and parks. Stops could be located over two miles from a student’s home. Buses may enter gated communities, but will utilize magnet stops along main corridor streets. In some situations K-12 students will travel together to central locations where shuttles can differentiate travel into town for middle / high school students.
