Credit Options Information

What kinds of credit are available to employees in DCSD?

Relicensure - used for renewal of a professional license through CDE and may be earned for training attended during or outside contracted work hours. Staff development courses offered through the district catalog as well as preapproved site-based trainings with a minimum of 7.5 instructional contact hours will offer relicensure credit.   Skills Blocks may also be counted towards relicensure credit.

Knowledge-level (salary) Advancement - used for DCSD teacher salary increase. KLA credit may be earned in addition to relicensure credit, but cannot be earned for attendance at training during contracted work hours, for completion of skill blocks, or using personal days. Advancement on the salary schedule requires a combination of one-half KLA credit hours & one-half university credit hours or all may be university credit hours.

All applications for salary advancement must be made through Human Resources.

University/College Credit - awarded by a sponsoring higher education institution & requires a tuition payment for credit. This credit is needed for salary advancement in DCSD but is no longer required for CDE relicensure. When KLA & university credit are both available, only one option may be used for salary / knowledge level advancement.

Out-of-District Knowledge-Level Advancement (salary) Credit - awarded to certified personnel for preapproved professional development attended outside DCSD. Application is made through the staff development office and credit hours awarded by Human Resources. A brief summary of learning and verification of attendance are required.
