Douglas County Schools Helps Peruvian Earthquake Victims

Stephanie Ramsey (DCHS) reports: Donations were dropped off in our classrooms, the school office, and the parking lot the day we loaded our cars; even Sharon Fanning brought a load over from CRMS.

I also picked up several bags from the owner of a local 2nd hand children’s’ clothing store. She contacted me because she heard about the collection through a customer. The picture shows the donations and their delivery to the Peruvian Consulate with DCHS teachers: Wendi White, Stephanie Ramsey, and Anne Marie Baker.

Elementary World Language Updates:

On August 21st, the Douglas County Board of Education approved our elementary textbooks: the Kuaile Hanyu series for Mandarin, and the Nuevo Bravo Bravo series for Spanish. These materials have now been ordered and are expected to be in the buildings in early September.

The long-awaited arrival of the video iPods will also be in September. In the meantime, our Phase One students have all begun to learn a World Language! Students are learning introductory thematic vocabulary involving colors, numbers, days, dates, weather, the alphabet, greetings, and expressions such as “What is your name?” “Where are you from?” and “How old are you?” We are even beginning to think ahead to Phase II. If you are interested in learning more about the process for selecting Phase II sites, we should have a process in place soon after the New Year.
