Special Olympics

Special Family Sponsors Mini Special Olympics

John and Libby Anderson from Rock Ridge Elementary school are a family who truly deserve recognition from our district. Saturday morning, November 11, 2006, they sponsored a mini Special Olympics for the students in the SSN program at Rock Ridge Elementary. You would have never known who was the Special Olympian and who was not. The Anderson’s had arranged for numerous other elementary students to attend as well.

This was the third time they have organized such an event. The Anderson’s have shirts made for each of the SSN students and always provide the students with medals and/or plaques at the end of the events. And least we forget the food and beverages they provide for all.

John and Libby Anderson have three typically developing children and have no ties to the students in the SSN program. They put together these events just because they are wonderful people. They are individuals who build a strong community between all our children.

Mission

The mission of Special Olympics Colorado (SOCO) is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities, eight years of age and older, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
