Traumatic Brain Injury

TBI is accommodated in the student's IEP

An acquired brain injury is an injury to the brain that has occurred since birth. It can be caused by external physical force or by an internal occurrence. ABI, as it is known, refers to both traumatic brain injuries such as open or closed head injuries and non-traumatic brain injuries. The non-traumatic brain injuries would include: strokes, infectious diseases, tumors, anoxic injuries (hanging, near drowning, etc.), metabolic disorders (insulin shock, etc.), and toxic products taken into the body in inhalation, injection, and ingestion.

The Referral Process

Any student from 3 to 21 years of age with a documented traumatic or acquired brain injury is eligible for IEP services. Your home school will make the referral.
