2006 Bond Passes

According to the Colorado Department of Education, DCSD is now the third largest school district in the state.  The district serves more than 50,000 students, and growth projections show an annual growth of more than 2,000 students over the next five years.

To support this growth, voters passed a $200 million bond issue in 2006.  Funds from the bond will go towards meeting student capacity needs and upgrading facilities.

Six new elementary schools will be built across the district using a new, energy efficient school design which is 27 percent larger than the previous prototype used by the district, increasing capacity from 510 to 680 students at each school.  A new 132,000 square foot middle school will be built for 1,000 students in Parker.  One 23,000 square foot addition to Legend High School will be built to provide technical classrooms.  Replacement facilities for the Early Childhood Center and Plum Creek Academy will be built.  Douglas County High School is scheduled for construction as part of the first two phases of a facility upgrade.  A new district stadium to hold approximately 5,500 students will also be built in Parker.

Additions and remodels are scheduled for Bear Canyon, Coyote Creek, Fox Creek, Pine Grove, Roxborough, and Summit View Elementary Schools and Cresthill Middle School.

Seven schools will receive roof replacements.  Nine schools will get new flooring.  Three schools are scheduled for elevator replacements.  Thirteen facilities will receive parking lot and bus loop improvements.  Four schools will get bleacher improvements.  Two schools are scheduled for tennis court improvements.  Three schools will receive playground improvements.  And six facilities will receive HVAC and mechanical upgrades.
