Counseling and Guidance

The School-to-Career Partnership has created a system wide approach over the past five years to ensure that students have the resources available to plan for the many options available to them.

Educational and Career Planning (ECP) - Students investigate careers, research post secondary education options that support their fields of interest, and identify the high school coursework which will help them reach their goals.

College in Colorado.org/Choices Planner - High School students and parents have access to this feature packed tool which offers occupational profiles, assessments, resume builder, and a data base of 8,000 colleges and technical schools.

Work Based Learning

The School-to-Career Partnership develops ongoing business partnerships to ensure that students have access to the following kinds of experiences:

Job Shadowing - Colorado Construction Career Day, offers hands-on exploration of potential careers for youth, grades 10-12.

Internships for seniors - Seven of our high schools offer elective courses that provide 120 hours of unpaid experience in the workplace.

Curriculum Integration

Career Connections for Educators – Teachers and counselors attend a one-day class during the school year to learn first-hand about the “behind the scenes” operations in business and to create meaningful classroom lessons.  The class is offered for .5 educator re-licensure credit through the district Staff Development Office.

Workplace Institute for Educators – Teachers and counselors attend an intensive five-day class during the month of June in order to learn about the “behind the scenes” operations in a variety of businesses and to develop business partnerships.  The class is offered for two Colorado State University credits.

Healthcare Institute for Educators – Teachers and counselors attend a one-day event at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center at Fitzsimons to learn more about new and emerging careers in the fast-growing health care industry.

Visible Human Curriculum Workshop – Secondary science teachers become familiar with the VH Dissector as they view high resolution organ systems and learn how to manipulate the images to perform a virtual dissection.
