Goals

  • To ensure a student protection and campus security plan is in place which conforms to best practices in school security and ensures coordination between law enforcement and other emergency authorities and the school district.

  • To ensure the District conforms to requirements and best practices for emergency management and response for schools.

  • To reduce the dollar loss and student contact hours lost as a result of criminal events directed at the physical plant of the district.

Our Unique Operation

The safety of our students is the highest priority in the Douglas County School District. The School Safety and Security Department is here to serve you and your child 24 hours a day. The Security Operations and Dispatch Center may be reached at anytime by dialing 303-387-9999. The Director of School Safety and Security, Dan Clemente, may be reached at 303-387-0377.

Maintaining a safe school environment is predicated upon three interconnected efforts: Student, Staff and Visitor Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Physical Plant Protection.

Student, Staff and Visitor Protection:

Efforts include assignment of security specialists and security officers to all of the high schools and middle schools, police officers assigned as school resource officers at each of the high school/middle school campuses, visitor control policies, security cameras monitored by security staff at every school and a discipline code that is fairly and consistently enforced.

Emergency Preparedness and Planning:

Efforts include close cooperative planning with local police and fire departments, school emergency plans that utilize best practices, and which are supported by District security and local public safety officials and which use a set of universal response procedures including sheltering in place and evacuation plans.

Physical Plant Security:

The District owns property and other assets valued in excess of $750 million. The buildings and grounds are patrolled by District security officers as well as local police. Video guard tours are conducted 24 hours daily and the District monitors burglar, fire and mechanical system alarms to protect these valuable assets.
