Lactose Intolerance and Milk Allergies
Douglas County now offers soymilk with school lunches
for children who are lactose intolerant or allergic to milk.
Silk soymilk is a lactose free non-dairy alternative that offers
the same vitamins and minerals as dairy milk. Two flavors are
available- chocolate and vanilla. Juice is also available as
a choice for milk or soy allergies.
If
your child cannot digest milk and would like a substitute provided with
his or her school lunch, a signed statement must be on file with the
cafeteria manager. The statement must be renewed each school year. The
supporting statement must include an identification of the medical or
other special dietary need that restricts the participant’s diet, the
food to be omitted, and the food that may be substituted. The statement
must be signed by a recognized medical authority (physician, physician
assistant, or nurse practitioner).
Silk soymilk is also available for individual sale.
