Mission Statement:

The mission of the Curriculum and Instruction team is to lead the district in the ongoing evaluation of curriculum and instruction, to target processes and strategies that inspire educators to use research-based instruction with cohesive sets of knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

Our office coordinates new course proposals, textbook approvals, curriculum documents, instructional plans and curriculum and instruction-related teams at the building, feeder and district levels. We work with teachers, administrators, counselors, school-to-career coordinators, librarians within our district, and a variety of career and technical education providers throughout Douglas and Arapahoe counties. Many of our documents can be accessed on First Class (All Staff > School Resources > Curriculum & Instruction).

Higher Education Admissions Requirements

Colorado has recently established Higher Education Admissions Requirements for students who plan to attend any of Colorado's public, four-year colleges or universities. The requirements go into effect in two phases: Phase 1 for students graduating in 2008 and 2009, and Phase 2 for students graduating in 2010 and beyond.

Enacted in 2005, HB 1057 requires districts to provide parents with a list of courses the district has available that satisfy the CCHE’s Higher Education Admission Guidelines. Douglas County provides a number of courses that meet those criteria.
